আমি এখন New York এ এসেছি . NEW YORK CITY হল ,NORTH ATLANTIC OCEAN এর পারে . আমি গত13-07-2012 বিকেল 5টাতে NEW YORK এর উদ্দেশে যাত্রা করেছিলাম I বিকেল ঠিক 5টা 30মিনিট এতে নেতাজী অন্তর দেশীয় বিমান বন্দর(DUM DUM ) এতে পৌছে ছিলাম I আমার সাথে আমাকে বিদায় জানাতে সবিতা (আমার স্ত্র্রী),অনামিকা ,বিনোধ (ধানবাদ থেকে আসা একটি ছেলে ),এসেছিল এবং মিঠুদা গাড়ী চালিয়ে নিয়ে এল I আমি 60টাকা করে 4(চার ) টা টিকিট কাটলাম ভিতরে যাবার যন্য I আমি Passport ,Air Ticket , বড় ব্যগ ,এবং সাথে রাকবার ছোটো Bag টা নিয়ে ভিতরে ডুকলাম I প্রথমে বর ব্যগ টা Indian Air Lines এর counter এতে X-RAY করালাম ওরা bag টা একটা ফিতে দিয়ে বেঁধে দিল (এই bag টা আমি আর খুলতে পারবনা ) I এবার আমি এই bag টা টেনে নিয়ে গেলাম অন্য এক Air India Counter এতে বর bag টা ওজন করাবার জন্য I ওজন হল 15কিলো I ওরা জানতে চাইল আমি কোথায় যাব আমি বললাম New york JFK Air port I তখণ আমার পাস্স্পর্ট ও ভিসা check করে আমার বর bag টা নিয়ে নিল অবং আমার টিকিটের উল্টো পিঠে New York এর ঠিকানা লীখতে বললো আমি লিখলাম (53 Ralph Avenue,Babylon ,New York 11702 ), তারপর আমাকে 2 (two )টা Boarding pass দিল with Flight No & seat number. একটা kolkata to Delhi -A I -023 seat No -10F . আর একটা Delhi to New York (Via Paris )-AI -101 seat No -47K .counter থেকে একটা tag নিলাম handbag এর জন্য এবং একটা immigration Form নিলাম I13-07-2012 5pm I started for USA tour From Kolkata Netaji International Airport
এবার আমি Gate এর কাছে আসলাম সবারসাতে লাস্ট দেখাকরতে , এখানে এসে দেখি সাম্যর ছোরদি ও এসেছে ,
যাহোক সকলের নিকট বিদায় নিয়ে আবার ভিতরে ঢুকলাম ,ImigrationForm টা fill up করে দোতালায় AI
counter এতে নাইন দিলাম ,এখেনে আবার full body search হলো ,handbag টা Xray এবং checkup হল
এবং handbag এর tag এতে stamp দিয়েদিল ,এবার আমার প্রতিক্ষার পালা কখন flight boarding এর জন্ন্য announcement হবে ,যারা আমাকে বিদায় জানাতে এসেছিল সবাই চলেগেল ,আমি বসে অপেক্ষা করতে থাকলাম.
রাত্রি 9টা 10মি এতে announcement হল যারা AI 023 Delhi যাবে তারা Gate No 1 দিয়ে প্রবেশ করুন I আমি
anouncement মতো গিয়ে নিজের seat 10F জানালার পাশে বসলাম I রাত্রি 9টা 30মি এতে Flight takeoff করলো এবং রাত্রি 11টাতেDelhi IndiraGandhi Air Port এতে Land করলো I delhi Airport টা ভারী সুন্দর I
flight এর ভিতর থেকে বাইরে আসতেই একজন Airperson gater কাছে দাড়িয়ে বলছিল যারা যারা Newyork যাবেন তারা এইদিকে দারান , এবং এই ভাবে পুরো Flight এর passenger দের তিন ভাগে দার করলো ,কাদের
কোথায় নিল জানিনা তবে আমাদের 24নম্বর Gate এতে যেতে বলল I এক gate থেকে অন্য Gate এতে যাবার কি সুন্দর ব্যবস্তা ,মনে হছে কোনো বিশাল মার্কেট বা mall এর দিয়ে যাচ্ছি ,যাই হোক অনেকটা হাটার পরে 24নং Gate
এতে পৌছালাম I এখানে আবার checkup করলো full body,bag এর একটা tag লাগালাম এবং handbag Xrayহল ,bag এর আগের tag stamp দেখে আবার একটা stamp দিয়েদিল এবং আবার অপেক্ষা করতে বসে রইলাম
কখন AI -101এর boarding announcement হবে I রাত্রি 1.30am এতে boarding announcement হল. আমি গিয়ে আমার সিট 47K তে জানালার পাশে বসলাম I রাত্রি 2.টায flight take off করলো

সৌভাগ্য বসত আমার পাশের seat টা খালি I অর্থাত আমর পাশের সিট খালী এবং তার পরে একজন বয়স্ক gujrati ভদ্রমহিলা ,ফলে আমি সিটে পা তুলে আরাম করে বসতে পারলাম I Remote দিয়ে Video চালু করে বাংলা film দেখতে লাগলাম , Air hostage tiffine দিয়েগেলো I রাতের খাবার আগের Flight এতেই দিয়াছিল I এরা tiffine দিলো
Wine offer করলো আমি বললাম Wine নেবনাব BlackTea দিলে নিতেপারি,ওরা black Tea দিল I আমি tiffine এবং
লাল চা খেয়ে ঘুম লাগালাম I ঘুম ভাঙ্গলো Airhostage এর ডাকে , ওরা আবার চা দিল ,আমি জানালা খুললাম কিসুন্দর দৃশ্য ,anouncement হলো আমরা আধাঘন্টার মদ্ধে Paris পৌছাব I জানালা দিয়ে নিচে তাকিয়ে দেকলাম
কি সুন্দর Paris শহর মেঘ এর নীচে দেখা যাচ্ছে সুন্দর শহর মানে হচ্ছে কেনভাসএ আঁকা শহর I দুরে দেখা গেল সেই বিখ্যাত এইফেল টাওয়ার , সার্থক হল আমার যাত্রা , মনেমনে মেয়েকে ধন্যবাদ জানালাম,এমন সুন্দর tour এর ব্যাবস্থা করার জন্ন I এবং ছেলেকেও জানালাম via Paris Air India র ticket কাটার জন্ন I ticket এর এমন direction মানে via Paris ticket না থাকলে এ জীবনে কোনো দিনই Paris শহর দেখার সৌভাগ্য হতনা I সেই
কারনেই ছেলে মেয়ে কে বার বার ধন্যবাদ জানাই I ভোর 4টাতে Paris Airport এতে Flight Land করল I
আমি প্লানে র ভিতরে ই দুচারবার এমাথা ওমাথা পায়চারী করলাম ,কারণ বসে শুয়ে হাতপা টাইট হয়ে গিয়েছিল,
তাই একটু হালকা করে নিলাম I আবার সকাল 9টায় flight takeoff করলো ,anounce korlo যে 6ঘন্টা লাগবে
NewYork পৌঁছতে I এই 6ঘন্টা বেস ভালোই কাটল Video টে flim দেকছি ,জানালা দিয়ে দেকছি মেঘের খেলা
এবং মেঘের নানা রং ,এদিকে বার বার নানা খাবার নানা ফল এবং (যেহেতু আমি Wine নেইনি তাই ওরা আমাকে
বারেবারে লালচা offer করছিল ,আমি ও মহা আনন্দে ) বারে বারে চা পান করছিলাম I বেলা 2টা নাগাদ একজন Airperson 2টা form দিল I 1> একটা ফর্ম DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY . Customs Declaration.) ., এই Form দুটা filupকরে রাখলাম, Form দুটো fillup করতে কোনো অসুবিধা হইনি , কারণ সাম্য আমাকে আগেই internet এতে বুঝিযেদিয়েছিল কি ভাবে কথায় কি fillup করতে হবে .এই ভাবে চলতে চলতে বেলা 3টা 45মিনিট এতে আমাদের flight AI -101 NEWYORK AIR PORT এতে land করলো I Flight থেকে নেমে অনেক দূর
হেটে এসে দেখি cheak in counter এ প্রচুর ভির এবংবিশাল লাইন প্রায় দের ঘন্টা লাইনে দরিযে তবে আমার নম্বর
এল I এখানে অনেক বিশাল লাইন হলেও খুবই নীয়মানুবার্তিতার সংগে লাইন আগিয়ে চলছিল.যে দুটো ফর্ম দিয়ে ছিলো

Cinema দেখে রাত্রি দেরটাতেফিরলাম.এবং ঘুমাতে গেলাম.

WORLD TRADE CENTER: A DREAM IS BORN
The 1939 New York Worlds Fair included an exhibit called the World Trade Center that was dedicated to the concept of “world peace through trade.” Seven years later, one of the exhibit’s organizers, Winthrop W. Aldrich, headed a new state agency whose proposed goal was a permanent trade exposition based in New York. Market research indicated that the city would benefit more by modernizing its ports, however, and the plan was soon scrapped.
More than 10,000 workers were involved in building the World Trade Center complex.
Aldrich’s nephew, David Rockefeller, didn’t forget the idea. The grandson of Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller, David decided to revive the World Trade Center concept as the core of a revitalized lower Manhattan. In May 1959, Rockefeller formed the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Association, which planned a $250 million complex near the Fulton Fish Market on the East River, including a single 70-story office tower and several smaller buildings.
THE PORT AUTHORITY SIGNS ON
For the resources and power to make the project work, Rockefeller turned to the Port of New York Authority. The Port Authority had been chartered in 1921 by New York and New Jersey to build and operate all transportation terminals and facilities within a 25-mile radius of the Statue of Liberty. By 1960, after constructing the Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge, the Port Authority was rapidly expanding its influence, with 5,000 employees and more than $1 billion in freight and transportation structures all presided over by its powerful director, Austin J. Tobin.
The Port Authority had just agreed to take over and renovate New Jersey’s Hudson and Manhattan commuter railroad, the PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) train, built in 1908. The PATH terminal was on the west side of Lower Manhattan, and Tobin’s team decided to move the prospective trade center location from east to west, combining the two projects. A region bounded by Vesey, Church, Liberty and West Streets–known as “Radio Row” for its many consumer electronics shops–would have to be razed for the trade center to be built. After a bitter legal battle with representatives of the Radio Row merchants, the Port Authority won the right to continue its plan.

SIGHTS SET ON RECORD-BREAKING HEIGHT
By this time, the Port Authority had decided that the trade center should replace the 1,250-foot-high Empire State Building, built in 1931, as the world’s tallest building. To fulfill the Port Authority’s requirement, architect Minoru Yamasaki designed two towers of 110 stories each. Instead of the traditional stacked glass-and-steel box construction of many New York skyscrapers, Yamasaki worked with structural engineers to come up with a revolutionary design: two hollow tubes, supported by closely spaced steel columns encased in aluminum. Floor trusses connected this exterior steel lattice to the central steel core of the building. In this way, the “skin” of the building would be strong enough that internal columns wouldn’t be necessary to hold it together.
Construction began in February 1967, after the Port Authority faced down criticism about the towers’ safety and viability from many powerful figures, including real estate tycoon (and Empire State Building owner) Lawrence Wien. Wien even ran an ad in The New York Times in May 1968 predicting that a commercial airliner was likely to fly into the towers. Plans had already been made to guard against such an accident–which had happened in July 1945 with a smaller plane at the Empire State–and the towers were designed to be safe in a collision with a fully loaded 707 plane (the largest existing plane at the time). It was assumed such a plane would have to be lost in fog for such an event to occur; a terrorist attack was never envisioned.
FEATS OF ENGINEERING AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
Because the ground in lower Manhattan was largely landfill, engineers would have to dig down 70 feet to reach bedrock. Excavating machines dug a three-foot-wide trench down to the bedrock, and as dirt and rock were removed, they were replaced by slurry: a mixture of water and bentonite, a type of clay that expands when wet to plug any hole along the side of the trench. Workers then lowered a 22-ton, seven-story-high steel cage into the trench and filled it with concrete by using a long pipe. As the concrete flowed in, it displaced the bentonite slurry. By making more than 150 of these slurry trench segments, workers enclosed an area two blocks wide and four blocks long. Called the “bathtub,” it was used to seal the basements of the towers and keep water from the Hudson River out of the foundation. All in all, 1 million cubic yards of landfill had to be removed. The Port Authority used this landfill to create the $90 million worth of land that would become Battery Park City. To piece the steel frame of the building together, engineers brought in Australian-made “kangaroo” cranes, self-powered cranes powered by diesel motors that could hoist themselves up as the building grew higher. At the end of construction, these cranes had to be disassembled and brought down by elevator. When the towers were finished, each one would have 97 passenger elevators, capable of carrying loads of up to 10,000 pounds at speeds of up to 1,600 feet per minute. In all, the towers were assembled from more than 200,000 pieces of steel manufactured around the country, 3,000 miles of electrical wiring, 425,000 cubic yards of concrete, 40,000 doors, 43,600 windows and six acres of marble.
WORLD TRADE CENTER: A DREAM COME TRUE
The last piece of steel was put in place on the north tower (One World Trade Center) on December 23, 1970; the south tower (Two World Trade Center) was topped off in July of the next year. Construction went on until April 1973, when the five-acre outdoor plaza, dominated by a 25-foot-tall bronze sculpture by Fritz Koenig, was completed. At the official ribbon cutting ceremony on April 4, Governor Nelson Rockefeller (David’s brother) proclaimed triumphantly, “It’s not too often that we see a dream come true. Today, we have.”
At 1,360 feet, the World Trade Center towers were the tallest buildings in the world for less than a year; they were soon surpassed by Chicago’s Sears Tower. Still, the towers held an incomparable mystique. They inspired incredible stunts, beginning in August 1974, when Philippe Petit walked a high wire between the two towers. In May 1977, George Willig earned himself the nickname of “the Human Fly” by hoisting himself to the top of the south tower using homemade climbing devices. The Port Authority loved these stunts because they endeared the towers to the public and made them seem like giant toys. They worked at turning the towers into an attraction, adding the Windows on the World restaurant, which opened on the 107th floor of the north tower in April 1976 and was an immediate hit. By 1983, World Trade Center revenues had jumped to $204 million, and space was in high demand. Smaller importers-exporters were now being pushed out by rising rents, making way for major businesses.
1993 BOMBING OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
The first major test of the trade center’s structural integrity came on February 26, 1993, when a bomb with the destructive power equal to 2,200 pounds of TNT exploded in the parking garage of the second floor basement of the north tower. The blast killed six people, injured more than 1,000 others and caused an estimated $600 million in damage. Six Islamic extremists were tried and convicted in connection with the plot.
The towers reopened 20 days after the bombing with new security measures in place, including restrictions to parking lot access and electronic identification badges for building tenants. Over the next eight years, the Port Authority spent a total of $700 million on renovations, with safety upgrades like battery-powered stairway lights and a separate emergency command center in each building. Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani set up a high-tech emergency operations command center, dubbed “the Bunker,” at 7 World Trade Center, a 47-story office building adjoining the towers.
THE WORLD TRADE CENTER ON SEPTEMBER 11TH
In July 2001, just two months before the terrorist attacks of September 11, the Port Authority agreed to lease the twin towers to Larry Silverstein, a New York City developer. Silverstein agreed to pay the equivalent of $3.2 billion over the next 99 years. At the time, over 99 percent of the 10.4 million square feet controlled by the Port Authority was occupied.
The impact of the two planes that hit the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001, was more devastating than any of the building’s designers and engineers had ever imagined. The first plane ripped a hole in the north tower from the 94th to the 98th floors, causing massive structural damage and igniting some 3,000 of the 10,000 gallons of jet fuel the plane was carrying. The second plane hit the south tower at an even faster speed, striking the corner and gashing the building from the 84th to the 78th floors.
The heroic efforts of the city’s fire and police departments and other emergency services helped 25,000 people escape from the site before the unthinkable occurred. The damage done at each point of impact forced the physical weight of the towers to be redistributed, and the undamaged part below the hole had to support the floors above. At the same time, the fires raging in both buildings weakened the steel trusses holding up each floor. With damage to a greater number of floors lower down on the building, the south tower gave way first, crumbling to the ground at 9:59 a.m., only 56 minutes after being hit. The north tower collapsed less than a half hour later, at 10:28 a.m.
Debris from the falling towers ignited fires in the remaining buildings of the trade center complex, including 7 World Trade, which burned for most of the day before collapsing at 5:20 p.m. Overwhelmed by horror, shock and grief, New Yorkers and people around the world trained their eyes on “Ground Zero,” where the fall of a treasured icon of American industry and ingenuity had left a gaping hole in the sky.

সাম্য রা একটাগাড়ি(FTW 5849 EMPIRE STATE) ভাড়া করলো ,
আমরা সাত জন ( আমি ,ঝুম,সাম্য ,পার্থ ,সুব্রত ,অনুপম ,হিমাদ্রি ,) BOSTON শহর দেখবার উদ্দেশে রাত্রি 9 টায় যাত্রা করলাম , 4hr journey করে রাত্রি 1 টায় আমরা Hotel HOLIDAY-INN, EXPRESS SHARON. Address :-395, Old Post Road. Sharon, M.A 02067 এতে পৌছলাম আমরা HOTEL HOLIDAY-INN এতে Check in করলাম , খুব ভালো Hotel, এর ব্যাবস্থা 5 Star Hotel এর মত , ($80 Dollars per day) রাত হোটেল এতে কাটালাম,সকালেহোটেল এতে break fast করে বেরিয়ে পরলাম, প্রথমে MIT ( MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY) দেখলাম ,এত বড় WORLD এর নামী এক Technology Institute দেখবার সুযোগ পেয়ে নিজেকে ভাগ্যবান বলে মানে হচ্ছে, দুপুরে এক বাঙালি হোটেলে ROYAL BENGAL , Boston's First Bengali Cuisine. 313Massachusetts Avenue. Cambridge, MA 02139. Hours:-Mon-Sun 11:00 to 11:00 tel:-(617)491-1988. Fax:-(617)491-8333. www.bengalicafe.com . ( একজন বাংলাদেশের ঢাকা শহরের মহিলার হোটেল ,বেস ভালোই রান্না করেন ) LUNCH করলাম , Hotel টিতে আবার বাংলাতে বড় বড় করে লেখা আছে "স্বাগতম্" তারপর HARVARD UNIVERSITY দেখলাম, বিশাল উনিভার্সিটি পুরোটা দেখতে বেস সময় লাগলো , বিকেল বেলা চলেগেলাম তিমিমাছ দেখতে.
(WHALE WATCH) টিকিট আগেই কাটা ছিল, আমরা ঠিক 5.30pm এতে লঞ্চ এতে উঠলাম, বিশাল লঞ্চ এবং খুব
সুন্দর ব্যাবস্থা লঞ্চ এর ভেতরেই নানান খাবার DRINKS, WINE,সকল রকমের ব্যাবস্থা . প্রচন্ড বেগে লঞ্চ চলছিল. প্রচন্ড বেগে হওয়া বইছিলো, ক্রমস ঠান্ডা ও বাড়ছিল .বাহিরের দিগে দাড়ানো ক্রমস বেশ কষ্টকর হয়ে উঠ ছিল ,তবুও সুন্দরতা উপভোগ করতে প্রায় সকলের সাথে আমিও বাহিরের ডেকেই দাড়িয়ে দেখতে থাকলাম চারিদিকের সৌন্দর্য
পার থেকে প্রায় 25km দুরে সমুদ্রে র মধ্যে পৌছে announce সুরু করলো কখনো ডানদিকে কখনো বামদিকে দেকতে বললো ,ঠিক যেমন Discovery তে দেখায় ঠিক তেমনই দেখলাম , প্রথমে একটা ডলফিন তারপর আবার একটা ,তারপরে দুরে দেখা গেল তিমিমাছ তারপরে কাছেই দেখা গেল বড় বড় তিমি প্রথমে জলের ফোয়ারা তারপরে পিঠ ক্রমস বিশাল লেজ,এমনি ভাবে কখনো ডানদিগে কখনো বামদিগে অনেক তিমি দেখলাম ,তিমি দের নানান নাম আছে তাদের মধ্যে দুটোর নাম মনে রাখতে পারলাম ছোট একটার নাম MINKY WHALE,এবং বড় একটার নাম কলম্বিয়া ,(Colombia নাম কারণ ওটারলেজে নকি colombia র mape এর ছাপআছে ).প্রায় এক দের ঘন্টা তিমি দেখা হল .তিন ,চার ,ঘন্টার সমুদ্র ভ্রমন রাতের বেলা মধ্যে সমুদ্রে বেস ঠান্ডা প্রবল হওয়া তাই ফেরার সময় লঞ্চ এর ভিতরে বসে রইলাম 9.45pm নাগাদ আমরা ফিরে এলাম এবং লঞ্চ থেকে নামলাম , তারপরে আবার সেই বাঙালি হোটেলএতে রাত্রের Diner করে ফিরে আসলাম Hotel in এতে .এই হোটেল এর checkout time 11am আমরা সকাল সকাল ফ্রেশ হোয়ে স্নান সেরে হোটেল ছেরেদিয়ে বেড়িয়ে পরলাম Boston শহর ঘুরে দেখবার জন্য .শহর টা বেস পরিস্কার পরিছন্ন .এখানে এক অদ্ভূত জিনিস দেখলাম ,সেটা হল এখানকার ভিখারী ,একটা করে পোস্টার লাগিয়ে বসে আছে (I am homeless and pannyless ,Need panny ).আবার কেউ নানান জায়গায় পোস্টার লাগিয়ে রেখেছে, কোথাও দেয়ালে কোথাও তার নিজেরসাইকেলে , ব্যাপারটা বেশ মজার. Freedom Fighter Place গুলো হেটে হেটে দেখলাম . এখানেও একটা মজার ব্যাপার Freedom Fighter Place গুলো শুরু হয়েছে Parkstreet station এর কাছে PARK STREET CHURCH থেকে .এখানথেকে ফুটপাথে একটা লাল লাইন শুরু হয়েছে ,বোর্ড এতে লেখা আছে এই লাল লাইন ধরে এগোলেই পর পর সবগুলো freedom fighter place দেখা যাবে , আমরাও সেই মত এগিয়ে সব স্হান গুলো দেখলাম, অনেক জায়গাতে ই আমেরিকানরা ঠিক ইংরেজ দের মত পোশাক পরে দর্সনীয়স্হান সম্বন্ধে চিত্কার করে করে বলে চলেছে . ---------------
এখানে প্রায় সব জায়গাতেই দেখলাম নিগ্রোরা নানান জায়গাতে নানাভাবে জিমনাস্টিক দেখিয়ে পয়সা রোজগার করছে .আবার এখানকার সাদা চামড়ার লোকেরাও নানাভাবে পয়সা রোজগার করছে ,কোথাও কেউ গিটার বাজিয়ে কেউ নানা ব্যালেন্সের খেলা দেখিয়ে. বিকেলে আমরা আবার বাড়ির দিকে রওনা দিলাম .আমদের যাবার এবং আসবার পুরো রাস্তাতেই সাম্য এবং অনুপম গাড়ি চালাল, ওরা ভালোই দাড়ি চালায় .রাত্রি প্রায় এগারটায় বাড়িতেফিরলাম .

আজকে ঘরে Lab top এ Bat man 1st part &2nd part দেখলাম বিকালে সাম্য ঝুমা অফিস থেকে ফেরার পর সবাই মিলে হোটেল এতে গিয়ে LOB STER মানে বিশাল চিংড়ি খেলাম .অত বড় চিংড়ি খওয়া তো দুরের কথা কোনদিন চোখেও দেখিনি .সেইবিশাল চিংড়ি খেলাম এবং রাত্রি 11টা র শো তে Bat man 3rd part টা দেখলাম .

আজকে বিকেলে---- market এতে আসলাম ,এখানে বাংলা দেশ এর বেশ কিছু লোকের নানা দোকান বাজার হোটেল তরি তরকারী ঠিক যেন বাংলা দেশের ঢাকা শহরের মত.মাছের দোকান থেকে 2.5 kg ইলিশ, one pound করে এক প্যাকেট পাবদা এবং এক প্যাকেট টেংরা মাছ কিনলাম , ইলিশ মাছ গুলো মেশিনে কেটে দিল ,সব মাছই ডীপফ্রিজ করা . প্রতেক মাছ মাংসের দোকানেই দুটো করে কাটিং মেসিন আছে পাসা পাসি একটাতে মাছ মাংস কাটে অন্নটাতে সুদু বীফ কাটে . তবে এখানে সব দোকানেই,
এমনকি বিগ বাজারের মত বড় বড় দোকানেও BEEF,PORK.পাওয়া যায়,প্রসেস করা .

আমার হাঠুর ব্যাথা টা বাড়ছে তাই ঝুম আবার একটা ভালো জুতো কিনে দিল . কিন্তু বাড়িতে এসে জুতোটা মোজাসহ পরে দেখলাম যে জুতোটা টাইট হচ্ছে. অতএব ওটা পাল্টাতে হবে .

DT-04-08-2012--------শনিবার (23rd day) NEW YORK শহর পরিদর্শন .
আজ New york ঘুরতে EMPIRE STATE এতে উঠেতে এবং SKY RIDE করতে যাবার জন্য বের হলাম .আজ Train এতে ই যাবার পোগ্রাম তাই খাবার খেয়ে বের হলাম . কাছের জংশন station এর পার্কিং এতে গাড়ি রেখে সাম্য ,আমি,এবং ঝুম ট্রেন ধরে Newyork পৌছলাম . ট্রেন থেকে নেবে ঝুম গেল ওর অফিসেবাগ এবংlap top রাখতে .আমি এবং সাম্য গেলাম Sky-ride &Empire state চরবার টিকেট কাটতে .টিকেট কিনে আমরা ঝুম এর সাথে মিট করলাম .আমরা তিনজনে মিলে শহর ঘুরে দেকতে শুরু করলাম .বিশাল বিশাল বিল্ডিং Bank of America, Stock Exchange . Large Crystal .অপূর্ব টেকনোলজি এত বড় একটা hexagonal block তার এক কোনাতে ভার রেখে দাড়িয়ে আছে .দেখলাম World Trade এর প্লেস Remember of 9-11 এখানে নুতন বিল্ডিং হচ্ছে Four World Trade Centre =977ft(298m)=72Floor=2013 তে পুরা হবে (known as 150Greenwich Street). যদিও Newyork শহর হল বিশাল বিশাল বিল্ডিং এর শহর . এখানে 92টা বিশাল বিল্ডিং আছে তাদের মধ্যে 6টা হল

তার পরে আবার ট্রেন এতে করে সমুদ্রর ধরে BATTERY PARK CITY এতে last end of New York. HUDSON RIVER যেখানে সমুদ্রে মিশেছে .এখান থেকে STATUE OF LIBERTY দেখা যাছিল .এখানের পার্ক টা বেস সুন্দর মুজিক এর তালে তালে ফোয়ারা চলছে এবং অনেক বাচ্চারা তাতে খেলা করচে .পাশেই 9-11 স্বরণে আগুন জলছে .সর্বক্ষণ এই আগুন জলছে পাসেই স্তম্ভ করে রাখা আছে সেই গ্লোব যেটা ওয়ার্ল্ড ট্রেড সেন্টর বিল্ডিং এর ওপরে ছিল .সেটা খানিকটা নস্ট বা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে . আবার ট্রেনে করে চলে এলাম এম্পের স্টেটএর কাছে কানন এম্পায়ার স্টেট এর ওপের থেকে সূর্যাস্ত দেকবো ,সেইজন্য আমরা প্রথমে এম্পায়ার স্টেট এর স্ক্যাই রাইডে পৌঁছলাম.এখানে একের পর এক তিন তলায় নানান ভাবে টিভি তে পুরো ণীঊ ইওর্ক সমন্ধে অনেক কিছুই দেখালো ,বোঝালো ,এবং একটা রুম এতে বসিয়ে সক্ত করে চেয়ারএর সাথে আটকে রেখে নানা ভাবে ঘোরালো যেন আমরা হেলিকপ্টারে বসে পুরো শহরের ওপের দিয়ে ভ্রমণ করছি .আধা ঘন্টা এমেন ভাবে স্কাইরাইড করিয়ে দিল .এবার আমরা EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TOWER এতে উঠবার জন্য LIFT এর লাইন লাগালাম. লিফটে প্রথমে আশি তলা (80 Floor) চরলাম ,আরার অন্য লিফটে করে আরো ছয় তলা (6 Floor) চরলাম. মোট ছিয়াশি তলা (86Floor) চড়তেদিল .এর বেসি উপরে উঠতে গেলে তার জন্যে আলাদা টিকেট কিনতে হবে .সেই কারণেই সকলেই এই ছিয়াশি তলা পর্যন্তই ওঠে .আমরাও এই খানেই থামলাম, এখানে প্রচুর ভীর, চারী ধরেই মানুষ যেন পাগলের মত সুদু ছবি তুলেতেই ব্যাস্ত, চারী দিগেয়ে সুদু ক্যামেরার ঝলকানি, ফটো তোলারধুম, কে কার আগে গিয়ে রেলিং কাছে থেক ছবি নিতে পারবে,আমি প্রথমে আধা ঘন্টা সুধু মানুষের সৌন্দর্য উপ ভোগের পাগলামি এবং ব্যস্ততা উপভোগ করলাম,
(86 Floor=approx 1054ft or 321m ) এত উপর থেকে নীচের শহর, নদী, নালা,উচু নীচু বিল্ডিং, রাস্তা ঘাট, কি অপূর্ব দৃশ্য. দেখলাম সুর্যাস্ত অপূর্ব অপূর্ব এ জিনিস নিজের চোখে না দেখলে বিশ্বাস করা যায়না. সুর্যাস্তের পরে ক্রমস যত অন্ধকার হছে মানে রাত যত বাড়ছে চারী দিগ ততোই সুন্দর রূপ ধারণ করছে আলোর কি মহিমা টা দেখলাম কিন্তু এ দৃশ্য বর্ণনা করার মত ক্ষমতা আমার নাই .চারিদিগের উচু উচু বিল্ডিং গুলো নানান রং এর লাইট কোনো টা আবার বার বার রং বদলাচ্ছে,এই এম্পার বিল্ডিং এর রং ও বার বারবাদলাছে, ওই যে ক্রেসলের বিল্ডিং ও রও রং বার বার পাল্টাচ্ছে.কি সুন্দর লাইটের রং এর খেলা. মানে হয় দেখতেই থাকি, চোখ ফেরানো যায়না. নীচের রাস্তা গুলো মনে হচ্ছে যেন আলোর ফোয়ারা,মনে হচ্ছে কেউ লাল হলুদ আলো রাস্তাতে ঢেলে দিয়েছে, চারী দিগে সুদু আলোর বন্যা, রং বে রং এর আলোর খেলা, চোখ ধাধানোর আলোর খেলা. এমনিতেও এই এম্পায় বিল্ডিং এর মিনিটে মিনেটে পাল্টায়, আবার প্রতেক দিনের লাইট এর রং আলাদা আলাদা,(আমাদের দেশের মানে 15th August of India তে এই এম্পায়ার বিল্ডিং এর লাইটয়ের রং হয় আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার রং এর রং). রাত্রি 9টায় 1054ft উপর থেকে নীচের New York শহরের এই আলোর রোশনাই এর অপূর্ব খেলা, যা দেখলাম তা এজীবনে ভুলবোনা. আবার একবার বলতে ইচ্ছা করে সার্থক হল আমার আমেরিকা আসা, সার্থক হল বিদেশ ভ্রমন, সার্থক হল এ জীবন. রাত্রি 9.30 টায় আমরা নীচেনামলাম. নীচে থেকে আবার এই এম্পায়র বিল্ডিং এর উপরের লাইটিং এর ছবি নিলাম, তারপর ছবি নিলাম *macys=world largest store এর, এতো বিশাল এক দোকান ভাবা যায়না, অনেক মল বা বাজার এতো বড় হতেই পারে কিন্তু একটা দোকান এতো বড়ো ভাবা যায়না, ছয়তলা বিল্ডিং ,লম্বায় আধা কিলোমিটার চওরায় আধা কিলোমিটার, পুরোটা নিয়ে একটাই দোকান, তার আবার এক তলা থেকে পাঁচ তলা পর্যন্ত সবটাই সুধু মেয়েদের জামা কাপড়, লিপস্টিক, স্নো, পাউডার, কেবল একটি মাত্র ফ্লোর ছেলেদের জন্য , এমন দোকান কি ভাবা যায়? তার পরে
রাতের আলোর এই অপূর্ব দৃশ্য, দিনের New york এবং রাতের New york আকাশ পাতাল ফারাক, রাত যত বাড়ছে শহরের চমক, রোশনাই ততোই বাড়ছে, দিনের শহর হল অফিস গুলোর প্রচন্ড ব্যাস্ততা,আর রাতে শহরের রাস্তাতে ব্যাস্ততা, রাত যত বাড়ছে আলো ততো উজ্জল হচ্ছে মানুষের ভিরও ততই বাড়ছে,রাত বারার সাথে সাথে মানুষের আনন্দ উঠ্সাস বা ফুর্তি (যাকে এক ধরনের পাগলামি ও বলা চলে ) ততো ই বাড়ছে ,
এবার আমরা গেলাম ঝুমার অফিসে NEW YORK TIMES BUILDING এতে যে বিল্ডিং এর উচ্চতা 1,046ft(319m),52Floor, যাকিনা New york শহরের চতুর্থ উচ্চতম বিল্ডিং, আমরা ছ তলায় উঠলাম এখানেই ঝুমার অফিস, যেহেতু এটা খবরের কাগজের অফিস তাই ছুটির দিন হলেও রাতেও অনেকে কাজ করছে, খুবই সাজানো গোছানো অফিস,সব যাগাতেই লাইট এর সেন্সের লাগানো আছে, যখন যে দিগে যাচ্ছিলাম তখনি সেই দিগের লাইট জলে উঠছে, আবার যে রুম থেকে বাইরে আসছি, সে রুমের লাইট নিভে যাচ্ছে, কোনো সুইস ই হাত দিয়ে জালাতে বা নেভাতে হচ্ছেনা, Times Building থেকে বের হয়ে আমরা হোটেলে গিয়ে রাতের খাবার খেলাম, রাতের খাবার পর আমরা চললাম New york এর মধ্যমনি, এবং আলোর বন্যা দেখতে, অর্থাতTimes Squer এতে, এতদিন যা শুনেছি বা সিনেমাতে দেখেছি, এ যেন তার থেকেও অনেক অনেক বেশি সুন্দর, এখানে দাড়িয়ে সেই মহান সাহিত্যিক শরত চন্দ্রের লেখা একটা লাইন মনে পরছে, "আহা- কি দেখিলাম জ্যন্ম জ্যন্মান্তরেও ভুলিবনা". আবার আমাদের ট্রেন ধরে বাড়ি ফিরতে হবে তাই রওনা দিলাম স্টেশনের দিগে, এবং রাত্রি একটায় বাড়ি ফিরে আসলাম.

BABYLON যে জায়গাতে ঝুমরা থাকে সেটা হল সমুদ্রের ধরে, আসলে এটা একটা দ্বীপ, যাকে বলা হয় South Shore of Island. of North Atlantic Ocean. এখান থেকে খারি এবং সমুদ্র একদম কাছে, বাড়ির পাশেই পার্ক তারপরই খারি, আমি রোজ বিকেলে ওই পার্কে হাটতে যাই,পার্ক এর ঝিলে প্রচুর রাজহাঁস, বড় বড় পাখি তাদের নাম জানিনা, প্রচুর পানকৌরি আছে, ফিশিং বা ছিপদিয়ে মাছ ধারা এখানকার লোকেদের এক সখ বা সময় কাটানো, ছিপে ছোট ছোট মাছ উঠলে তা আবার জলে ছেড়ে দেয়, বড় মাছ কাউকেই ধরতে দেখিনি,তবে কাঁকড়া উঠলে ছারেনা,কেউ কেউ শুধু কাঁকড়া ই ধরে.ছেলে মায়ে সবাই ছিপ দিয়ে মাছ ধরে.আর এখানকার মানুষের প্রধান শখ হল কুকুর পোষা,
কুকুর হল এদের নিজের সন্তানের থেকেও বেসি আদরের,কারণ ছেলে ,মেয়ে, থাকবে 25বছর, কিন্তু কুকুর থাকবে আমরণ, কথাটা হজম হবার মত নয়, তবুও এটাই সত্যি, কারণ এখানকার ছেলে মেয়ে রা 25বত্সর বয়েসেই স্বাধীন ভাবে থাকতে চায়, তখন তারা বাবা,মা, এর সঙ্গে থাকতে চায়না, বাবা মারাও চায়, 25বছর অতিক্রান্ত সন্তানেরা আলাদা থাকুক, কারণ প্রতেক বাবামারা ভাবে এই বয়সের সন্তানেরা সঙ্গে থাকলে তাদের নিজেদের প্রাইবেসিতে বাধা হবে. তাই তাঁরা নিজেদের ব্যেতিগত শুখভোগের লালসায় সন্তান দের জন্য আলাদা বাড়ি ঘর বা আলাদা থাকবার ব্যবস্তা করে দেন.এবং প্রয়জনীয় খরচা,টাকা পয়সা সকলি দেন, খরচা খরচের কোনও কমিরাখেননা, কিন্তু সাথে রাখবেননা. ছেলে মেয়ে রাও নিজের পায়ে দাড়াবার জন্য স্বচেষ্ট হয়ে পরে. আমি বহু ছেলে মেয়ে দের দেখেছি তারা পারাসুনা করে আবার অবসর সময়ে হোটেলে, দোকানে, কাজ করে, নিজেরা নিজেরপকেট খরচা যোগার করে নেয়.এই কারণেই এখানকার যুব সমাজ ভিশন স্বাধীন চেতা, এবং উথস্রিন্কল( আমাদের চোখে ).যা হোক আমি কারুর সমাজ সংস্কৃতি নিয়ে কোনো আলোচনা করতে চাইনা.---------------
এখানকার সবাই বেস পয়সাওয়ালা ,তার মদ্ধেএই ব্যবিলন এর মানুষ জন প্রচুর ধনী, এদের সবারই গাড়ি বাড়ি তো আছেই, অনেকের আবার নৌকা বা লঞ্চ বা ছোট জাহাজও আছে . বাড়ির গাড়ি পার্ক এতে যেমন গাড়ি আছে , তেমনই ঘাটে জাহাজ, লঞ্চ, বা বোট বাঁধা থাকে.---------

আজ কে দিনের বেলা গমের খিচুরী (ডালিয়া ) এবং রাত্রে আমি বানালাম লিটি +ঝুমা বানালো ফুচকা. খাওয়া তো ভালোই হল .
এখানে গাছের পাতায় একটু একটু করে রং ধরতে শুরু করেছে,এমনই ভাবে রং ধেরতে ধারতে প্রথমে লাতারপরে হলুদ হয়ে নভেম্বর, দেসেম্বর এতে সবপাতা ঝরে যাবে, সুদু চির হরিদ গাছের পাতা ঝরবেনা ,বাকি সব গাছের পাতাই ঝরে যাবে,

DT-04-08-2012--------শনিবার (23rd day) NEW YORK শহর পরিদর্শন .
আজ New york ঘুরতে EMPIRE STATE এতে উঠেতে এবং SKY RIDE করতে যাবার জন্য বের হলাম .আজ Train এতে ই যাবার পোগ্রাম তাই খাবার খেয়ে বের হলাম . কাছের জংশন station এর পার্কিং এতে গাড়ি রেখে সাম্য ,আমি,এবং ঝুম ট্রেন ধরে Newyork পৌছলাম . ট্রেন থেকে নেবে ঝুম গেল ওর অফিসেবাগ এবংlap top রাখতে .আমি এবং সাম্য গেলাম Sky-ride &Empire state চরবার টিকেট কাটতে .টিকেট কিনে আমরা ঝুম এর সাথে মিট করলাম .আমরা তিনজনে মিলে শহর ঘুরে দেকতে শুরু করলাম .বিশাল বিশাল বিল্ডিং Bank of America, Stock Exchange . Large Crystal .অপূর্ব টেকনোলজি এত বড় একটা hexagonal block তার এক কোনাতে ভার রেখে দাড়িয়ে আছে .দেখলাম World Trade এর প্লেস Remember of 9-11 এখানে নুতন বিল্ডিং হচ্ছে Four World Trade Centre =977ft(298m)=72Floor=2013 তে পুরা হবে (known as 150Greenwich Street). যদিও Newyork শহর হল বিশাল বিশাল বিল্ডিং এর শহর . এখানে 92টা বিশাল বিল্ডিং আছে তাদের মধ্যে 6টা হল

তার পরে আবার ট্রেন এতে করে সমুদ্রর ধরে BATTERY PARK CITY এতে last end of New York. HUDSON RIVER যেখানে সমুদ্রে মিশেছে .এখান থেকে STATUE OF LIBERTY দেখা যাছিল .এখানের পার্ক টা বেস সুন্দর মুজিক এর তালে তালে ফোয়ারা চলছে এবং অনেক বাচ্চারা তাতে খেলা করচে .পাশেই 9-11 স্বরণে আগুন জলছে .সর্বক্ষণ এই আগুন জলছে পাসেই স্তম্ভ করে রাখা আছে সেই গ্লোব যেটা ওয়ার্ল্ড ট্রেড সেন্টর বিল্ডিং এর ওপরে ছিল .সেটা খানিকটা নস্ট বা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে . আবার ট্রেনে করে চলে এলাম এম্পের স্টেটএর কাছে কানন এম্পায়ার স্টেট এর ওপের থেকে সূর্যাস্ত দেকবো ,সেইজন্য আমরা প্রথমে এম্পায়ার স্টেট এর স্ক্যাই রাইডে পৌঁছলাম.এখানে একের পর এক তিন তলায় নানান ভাবে টিভি তে পুরো ণীঊ ইওর্ক সমন্ধে অনেক কিছুই দেখালো ,বোঝালো ,এবং একটা রুম এতে বসিয়ে সক্ত করে চেয়ারএর সাথে আটকে রেখে নানা ভাবে ঘোরালো যেন আমরা হেলিকপ্টারে বসে পুরো শহরের ওপের দিয়ে ভ্রমণ করছি .আধা ঘন্টা এমেন ভাবে স্কাইরাইড করিয়ে দিল .এবার আমরা EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TOWER এতে উঠবার জন্য LIFT এর লাইন লাগালাম. লিফটে প্রথমে আশি তলা (80 Floor) চরলাম ,আরার অন্য লিফটে করে আরো ছয় তলা (6 Floor) চরলাম. মোট ছিয়াশি তলা (86Floor) চড়তেদিল .এর বেসি উপরে উঠতে গেলে তার জন্যে আলাদা টিকেট কিনতে হবে .সেই কারণেই সকলেই এই ছিয়াশি তলা পর্যন্তই ওঠে .আমরাও এই খানেই থামলাম, এখানে প্রচুর ভীর, চারী ধরেই মানুষ যেন পাগলের মত সুদু ছবি তুলেতেই ব্যাস্ত, চারী দিগেয়ে সুদু ক্যামেরার ঝলকানি, ফটো তোলারধুম, কে কার আগে গিয়ে রেলিং কাছে থেক ছবি নিতে পারবে,আমি প্রথমে আধা ঘন্টা সুধু মানুষের সৌন্দর্য উপ ভোগের পাগলামি এবং ব্যস্ততা উপভোগ করলাম,

কুকুর হল এদের নিজের সন্তানের থেকেও বেসি আদরের,কারণ ছেলে ,মেয়ে, থাকবে 25বছর, কিন্তু কুকুর থাকবে আমরণ, কথাটা হজম হবার মত নয়, তবুও এটাই সত্যি, কারণ এখানকার ছেলে মেয়ে রা 25বত্সর বয়েসেই স্বাধীন ভাবে থাকতে চায়, তখন তারা বাবা,মা, এর সঙ্গে থাকতে চায়না, বাবা মারাও চায়, 25বছর অতিক্রান্ত সন্তানেরা আলাদা থাকুক, কারণ প্রতেক বাবামারা ভাবে এই বয়সের সন্তানেরা সঙ্গে থাকলে তাদের নিজেদের প্রাইবেসিতে বাধা হবে. তাই তাঁরা নিজেদের ব্যেতিগত শুখভোগের লালসায় সন্তান দের জন্য আলাদা বাড়ি ঘর বা আলাদা থাকবার ব্যবস্তা করে দেন.এবং প্রয়জনীয় খরচা,টাকা পয়সা সকলি দেন, খরচা খরচের কোনও কমিরাখেননা, কিন্তু সাথে রাখবেননা. ছেলে মেয়ে রাও নিজের পায়ে দাড়াবার জন্য স্বচেষ্ট হয়ে পরে. আমি বহু ছেলে মেয়ে দের দেখেছি তারা পারাসুনা করে আবার অবসর সময়ে হোটেলে, দোকানে, কাজ করে, নিজেরা নিজেরপকেট খরচা যোগার করে নেয়.এই কারণেই এখানকার যুব সমাজ ভিশন স্বাধীন চেতা, এবং উথস্রিন্কল( আমাদের চোখে ).যা হোক আমি কারুর সমাজ সংস্কৃতি নিয়ে কোনো আলোচনা করতে চাইনা.---------------

At noon we take
our meal at Maharaja hotel of Niagara by Buffet system (this is a
Punjabi hotel & very good quality of food available ). After our lunch at
about 3pm we started for Babylon. And we reached our home at about 11.30pm. On
the way Samya ordered PIZA to PAPPA
JONS. So when we reached to home at the same time the PAPPA JON’s company’s car
with a PIZA came to us. We receive the PIZA

After the LURAY CAVE visit on the way of our return we
entered into a NATIONAL PARK “SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK” at VARGINIA. Oh this is
a high altitude national park. Shenandoah
National Park (SNPA)just 75miles
from bustle of Washington D C. The park
is famous for SKYLINE DRIVE, Antara
was driving. The
park encompasses part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the US state of Virginia.
This national Park is long and narrow, with the broad Shenandoah River and
Valley on the west side and the rolling hills of the Virginia Piedmont on the
east. Although the scenic Skyline Drive
is likely the most prominent feature of the Park. Very beautiful park and so beautiful sites cines, but due to our bad luck we
failed to enjoy freely, because its rain start and it was evening so darkness
covered soon just after the sun set. We captured some photos of hillside sunset. But the rain started soon so
we bound to come down. All the roads were very tuff, surf turnings,
narrow path , Hugh fog ,continues raining makes the road danger to drive, But Antara was too sincere, and alert for
driving the car in such danger and tuff situation and hard road. On the
way when another vehicles or cars of
opposite direction appears , it was very difficult and so danger to give
passing. I having 40 years of
experience for driving was fearing, but
Antara was so steady and was driving
smoothly. I myself was so astonished and
speech less about her driving that I never forge it. And so I never forget the environment and situations of such
hard conditions of hill site driving.
All through the way she was driving in 40miles/hr. ------ Almost 40% of the land area
79,579acres (322.04km, sq )has been designated as wilderness and is protected
as per of the National wilderness Preservation System. The height Peak is Hawksbill Mountain at 4,051feet (1,235m).

Today is the LABOUR
DAY in USA So today is Holiday.
We visited the Discovery National Aquarium of Baltimore City.
501 EAST PRATT STREET ,BALTIMORE, MD 21298-6603.
This is a very large and very beautiful Aquarium. Here
we see the various types of fishes and
all other animals of sea level a little fish to heavy sharks , sea lions and
various specious of sea level various birds even penguins also.
At the side of the aquarium in the sea port we saw a submarine and a ship of cost guard.
We enjoyed the beautiful play or activities of
DOLPHINS. All the Dolphins were well trained and so beautiful. All the dolphins were following
the directions of their trainers accurately.
After that we returned home at about 11.30pm.

versary of this show. The story of
Disney’s Lion King.
OH this was a very nice and beautiful show .
Then we visited
MADAME TUSSAUDS. of New York. It
was a great thrilling to us. All the statue are made of wax . but they are so
accurate as like as original humans .

am unable to describe the beauty and
arts of the Madame Tussauds.
And we visited a 4D cinema . The 4D cinema also was a great
thrilling.

Weather changing
winter season will coming soon, out side the room cold wind blowing so

mainly at afternoon . All the CHINAR TREE leaves started to change the
color not only chinartree all other
trees leaf were also changing their color. In the ARGALY PARK & LAKE maximum birds were fly away , only the old
birds and the birds who got damage their wings or legs only they are staying hear all other young
birds are flying away.
Gradually, coldness of the weather increasing .

MONTAUK POINT LIGHTHOUSE.—It was Commissioned
by president George Washington in 1796.

Of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
The Lighthouse, the first built in New York State,
stands on a historic and spectacular
site. It was here, high above the ocean, that the Montaukett Tribe built watch fires to guide their canoes
safely home.
During the
American Revolution the British occupied Long Island. On this bluff they called
“Turtle Hill” they kept watch fires
burning as beacons for their
blockading Long Island Sound .
After the Revolution
and to safeguard ships and promote international trade, the building of
the Lighthouse was authorized in 1792 by
the Second Congress under President George Washington.
The 1st keeper s of the Lighthouse were civilians.
From 1939 until 1987 the United States Cost Guard operated the Lighthouse.
During 2nd
World war members of US Coast Guard and the US Army were both stationed at the
Lighthouse. In1942 a Fire control Station was built on the Lighthouse grounds
in order that the US Army Artillery Division at the Lighthouse could coordinate with cannon crews stationed
west of the Lighthouse at Camp Hero.
In1996 President Bill Clinton signed legislation that
transferred ownership of the Lighthouse property from the Federal govt. to the
Montauk Historical Society.
The Coast Guard continues to maintain the Lighthouse optic
and the foghorn as Active Aids to
Navigation.
For over two hundred years
mariners on whaling ships, steamers, fishing boats, and sailing vessels
of all kinds have passed this Lighthouse
and were guided and reassured by
its presence. Today it is still avery active and welcome aid to navigation.

fact the foliage peaks at different times in different parts of the state.Generally,
the best times to view the fall colors are near the end of September in the far
North, the beginning of October in the White Mountain region and the middle of
October in the South.A drive on the
Mount Washington Auto road is a drive
unlike any other, with the ever changing
weather conditions on New England’s height peak, strong winds remarkable
fog and rapidly moving clouds.
When we reached at peak it was sun, but just after
parking our car we come out , at once we
fill all the area covered with clouds, started strong winds .With in a few minutes it was raining. We bound to
put on our wind proof jackets, yet we can’t stand there freely due to heavy
strong wind. With in a few minutes we
fell a fine film of snow gathered on the windscreen of the car and on our
jackets, the weather became so cold that we can’t stand there more ,we
entered to our car and started heater,
and started to come down. This fresh coating of snow on our jackets and on the
windscreen of the car which adds more beauty , and the beauty of ever remind.
But all the surrounding area as far as we able to see , Oh
so beautiful fall colors, the every step
of the hill fully covered with crimson, golden , yellow, and brown colors. The
beauty of the surrounding areas I can’t able to describe.
The seen I saw, the beautiful display of the fall colors,
should never forget in rest of my life,.
The beauty of nature provides a vibrant
display of colorful foliage that extends as far as the eye can see . As trees prepare for the onset of winter,
they exhibit a colorful array of reds, yellow, and browns that only nature can produce.
To experience the magnificence of the fall foliage season
simply take a scenic drive throughout the area.

এর ইতিহাস ও তার ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনাকেও ভোলা যায় না। যা সত্য তাকে যেমন স্বীকার করতে হবে, তেমনি স্বচ্ছন্দচিত্তে মেনেও নিতে হয়।
২০১৯ সালের Core data nyc এর তথ্য অনুসারে, জ্যাকসন হাইটসের জনসংখ্যা আনুমানিক ১ লাখ ৭৫ হাজার ২৭৫ জন। শতকরা হিসাবে এশিয়ান ১৮.৯ শতাংশ। তবে অবৈধদের হিসাবে ধরলে তার সংখ্যা অনেকগুণ বেশি হবে। যা-ই হোক, ১৬৭ ধরনের ভাষায় কথা বলেন এই এলাকার ভিন্ন জাতির মানুষ। নিউইয়র্ক সবচেয়ে বেশি সাংস্কৃতিক ও জাতিগত বৈচিত্র্যপূর্ণ স্থান। বিশ্বের প্রায় সব দেশের মানুষের বসবাসের জন্য জ্যাকসন হাইটস উপযুক্ত স্থান হওয়ার বিশেষ কারণ ছিল ১৯৩০ সালে নিউইয়র্ক সিটির সাতটি ট্রান্সপোর্টেশন সিস্টেম চালু করার যুগান্তকারী ঘটনা। ট্রাইবরো ব্রিজ, দ্য মিডটাউন টানেল, গ্র্যান্ড সেন্ট্রাল পার্কওয়ে, দ্য হোয়াইটস্টোন ব্রিজ, ব্রুকলিন-কুইন্স এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে ও লাগুয়ার্ডিয়া এয়ারপোর্ট। উল্লিখিত ট্রান্সপোর্টেশন সিস্টেমের উল্লেখযোগ্য প্রসার ঘটলে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে মাইগ্রেট হয়ে আসার প্রবণতা প্রবল আকার ধারণ করে। যার ফলে দক্ষিণ এশিয়া থেকে সরাসরি ফ্যামিলি ভিসা নিয়ে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে আসতে থাকে দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার মানুষ এবং এই শহরকে ডাইভার্সিটিতে পরিণত করে।
১৯৯২ সালে তখনকার মেয়র ডেভিড ডিনকিন জ্যাকসন হাইটসকে অফিশিয়ালি ‘লিটল ইন্ডিয়া’ হিসেবে ঘোষণা দিয়েছিলেন। যখন মেয়র ডিনকিন জ্যাকসন হাইটস পরিদর্শনে আসেন, তখন তাকে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের অধিবাসী শ্বেতাঙ্গের দ্বারা প্রতিবাদের সম্মুখীন হতে হয়েছিল। তাদের ধারণা ও অভিব্যক্তিতে ফুটে উঠত যেন এসব এলাকা তাদের উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে প্রাপ্ত জমিদারি। সেদিন শ্বেতাঙ্গদের কেউ কেউ চিৎকারস্বরে বলেছিল, ‘Indians go back.’ কারণ অতি সহজ করে বললে বলা যায়, সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক স্বার্থে আঘাত পড়েছিল।
যুগের পরিবর্তনে প্রতিহিংসাপরায়ণ ও বর্ণবৈষম্যের ধূম্রজাল একসময় বিদগ্ধ রাজনীতিবিদদের কাছে পরিষ্কার হয়ে ওঠে। তাই তো ন্যায্য অধিকার আদায়ে যেকোনো মহৎ কাজ বাধাগ্রস্ত হলেও তা শেষ পর্যন্ত টিকে থাকতে পারে না। আমরা সবাই জানি, ১৯৬৫ সালের আগের ইমিগ্রেশনের কড়াকড়ি আইনি প্রক্রিয়ার কারণে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে উপমহাদেশ পাক-ভারতীয় অভিবাসীদের সংখ্যা নিতান্তই কম ছিল। ১৯৬৫ সালের ইমিগ্রেশন অ্যাক্টে বহিরাগতদের জন্য কড়াকড়ির আইনি প্রক্রিয়া শিথিল করার ফলে সাউথ এশিয়ানদের এ দেশে অনুপ্রবেশ ক্রমান্বয়ে বৃদ্ধি পেতে লাগল। ভারত উপমহাদেশ থেকে যারা এল, তারা অধিকাংশই ছিল নিউইয়র্ক অভিমুখী। ১৯৬৫ সালের আগে উচ্চশিক্ষার্থে অনেকেই এখানে এসে ডিগ্রি অর্জন করে চাকরি নিয়ে স্থায়ীভাবে ম্যানহাটনে বসবাস করতে লাগল। তখন ম্যানহাটনে বাস করাটা নিরাপদ ছিল বলেই তারা ওই শহরকে উপযুক্ত স্থান হিসেবে বেছে নিয়েছিল। কিছু মানুষ ব্রুকলিনেও পড়ে থাকল। পরবর্তী সময়ে কিছুসংখ্যক ভারতীয় ও পাকিস্তানি সস্তা ভাড়ার অ্যাপার্টমেন্টের জন্য কুইন্সের জ্যাকসন হাইটসে আস্তানা গাড়তে শুরু করে দিল। সেই সুযোগে ম্যানহাটনের কিছু বিচক্ষণ ব্যবসায়ী জ্যাকসন হাইটসকে ব্যবসায়িক কেন্দ্রস্থল বলে চিহ্নিত করে নিল। এর ফলে ১৯৭৩ সালে শুভাষ ঘাই ও রাজগান্ধী নামের দুজন ভারতীয় ব্যবসায়ী তাদের ম্যানহাটনস্থ ব্যবসাকে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে স্থানান্তরিত করলেন এবং তারাই সর্বপ্রথম ইলেকট্রনিকস স্টোরের দ্বার উন্মোচন করার মাধ্যমে এখানে বিজনেস সেন্টার গড়ে তুলতে অগ্রদূতের ভূমিকায় শামিল হলেন। শুভাষ ঘাই ও রাজগান্ধীর ‘শ্যাম অ্যান্ড রাজ’ ইলেকট্রনিকস স্টোর সফলভাবে ব্যবসা শুরু করে দিলে ধীরে ধীরে ৭৪ স্ট্রিটে অন্যান্য ব্যবসায়ীদের আগমন ঘটতে থাকে। জ্যাকসন হাইটসের প্রবীণ ব্যবসায়ীদের অভিমত সাপেক্ষে সেভেনটি ফোর স্ট্রিটসহ আশপাশজুড়ে যেসব সাউথ এশিয়ান ব্যবসায়িক প্রসার দেখা যায়, তার ক্রমবর্ধমান প্রবাহের মূল উদ্যোক্তার ভূমিকায় ছিল ‘শ্যাম অ্যান্ড রাজ’ ইলেকট্রনিকস প্রতিষ্ঠান। ওই প্রতিষ্ঠান ভারতীয় পণ্যসামগ্রী এখানে আমদানি মারফত দোকানজাত করে নিউইয়র্কের ভারতীয়, পাকিস্তানি ও বাংলাদেশি প্রবাসীদের এনে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে মেলবন্ধনের সূত্রপাত ঘটিয়েছে।
আশির দশকে যারা নিউইয়র্কে এসেছেন, তারা স্বচক্ষে দেখেছেন জ্যাকসন হাইটসের প্রাথমিক ব্যবসার শিশু চেহারা। হাতে গোনা কয়েকটি পাকিস্তানি ও ইন্ডিয়ান দোকানপাট ছিল। নিজ দেশের পণ্যসামগ্রী কেনার তাগিদে পাক-ভারতের মানুষসহ বাংলাদেশিদের সমাগম ঘটত। শুধু স্থানীয় মানুষের সমাগমই নয়, আনাগোনা ছিল নিউজার্সি, কানেকটিকাট, ভার্জিনিয়া, ম্যারিল্যান্ডসহ পেনসিলভানিয়া অঙ্গরাজ্যে বসবাসরত ভারত, পাকিস্তান ও বাংলাদেশি মানুষের। যখনই একজন বাংলাদেশি কোনো প্রয়োজনে থার্টি সেভেনথ অ্যাভিনিউর ৭৪ স্ট্রিটে আসত, তখন সে ভাবত এ যেন সে তার বাংলাদেশেই আছে। তেমনি ভারতীয়, পাকিস্তানিরাও ভাবত এই বুঝি তাদের স্বদেশভূমি। আমিও ১৯৮৬ সালে এই মার্কিন মুলুকে এসে তাদের মতো অভিবাসন নামের তালিকায় অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিলাম। জ্যাকসন হাইটসে এলে নিজেকে মনে হতো আমিও যেন আমার দেশে চলে এসেছি। ইন্ডিয়ান গ্রোসারি স্টোর ‘পাটেল ব্রাদার্স’ বা ‘দানাবাজার’-এ খরচ করতাম, ‘ইন্ডিয়ান শাড়ি প্যালেস’ থেকে গানের অডিও ক্যাসেট কিনতাম। রেন্ট করতাম হিন্দি মুভির ভিডিও ক্যাসেট। ভাবিদের সাথে আসতাম তাদের শাড়ি, গহনা ক্রয়ের প্রয়োজনে।
তখনকার ছোট পরিসরে ‘পাটেল ব্রাদার্স’ ছিল সেভেনটি ফোর স্ট্রিটস্থ বর্তমান ‘সিটি ব্যাংক’-এর ঠিক বিপরীতে রাস্তার অন্য পাশে। ‘দানা বাজার’ ছিল ৩৭ অ্যাভিনিউয়ের ৭৩ ও ৭৪ স্ট্রিটের মধ্যখানে। ‘শারদা শাড়ি প্যালেস’ নামেও আরেকটি স্টোর সেখানে ছিল। ‘শাহীন ফুডস’ নামের একটি পাকিস্তানি রেস্তোরাঁ ছিল জ্যাকসন হাইটসের ৭২ নম্বর সড়কের ব্রডওয়েতে, যেটি এখন ‘ডেরা’ রেস্টুরেন্ট নামে বর্তমানে চালু রয়েছে। ‘শাহীন ফুডস অ্যান্ড সুইটস’ রেস্তোরাঁটি ১৯৭৭ সাল থেকে এলাকার মানুষকে আতিথ্য সেবার পরিবেশনা দিয়ে আসছিল। তাদের আরেকটি রেস্টুরেন্ট ‘শিরিন মহল’ নামে বিখ্যাত ছিল ৩৭ অ্যাভিনিউর ৭৪ নম্বর সড়কে। মাশালা দসার জন্য ‘শিরিন মহল’-এর বাড়তি সুনাম ছিল। রেস্টুরেন্টের স্বত্বাধিকারী তারিক হামিদ। তাদের ওই ব্যবসাপ্রতিষ্ঠানটি তাদের পারিবারিক চেইন অব রেস্টুরেন্ট বিজনেস। ১৯৭৩ সালে তারিক হামিদের পিতা তার ছেলেদের নিয়ে ‘শাহীন সুইটস’ এলমহার্স্টের উডসাইড অ্যাভিনিউতে প্রতিষ্ঠার মধ্য দিয়ে তাদের পারিবারিক চেইন অব রেস্টুরেন্টের সূচনা হয়। নিউইয়র্ক টাইমসে প্রকাশিত রিপোর্টার Richard Weir-এর ‘Jackson Heights; Candz and a Taste of Home’ শীর্ষক প্রতিবেদনের কিছু অংশ এখানে তুলে ধরলাম : ‘I remember because I was the one who sold it,Õ said Tariq Hamid, who was 11 in 1973 when his father, Abdul, decided to give up his two jobs as a watchman and open the first Indian-Pakistani sweet shop in New York’ ১৯৭১ সালে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়ে আজও একই ঠিকানায় কালের সাক্ষী হয়ে আছে। জ্যাকসন হাইটসে ‘পাটেল ব্রাদার্স’ এর সূচনা হয়েছিল ১৯৮৪ সালে ৭৪ স্ট্রিটের বিপরীতে রাস্তার অপরপারে মাত্র ৭০০ স্কয়ার ফুট ছোট পরিসরে। সফল ব্যবসায়ী পাটেল ব্রাদার্সের আমেরিকাজুড়ে ৫৭টি স্টোর ১৯টি অঙ্গরাজ্যে বিস্তৃত রয়েছে। ‘পাটেল ব্রাদার্স ইনক’-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মাফাত পাটেল ও তুলশী পাটেল। উত্তরাধিকারসূত্রে মাফাতের সন্তান সোয়াটেল ও রাকেশ পাটেল বর্তমানে পরিচালনার দায়িত্বে রয়েছেন। ওই চেইন বেইস ইন্ডিয়ান-আমেরিকান সুপার মার্কেটের যাত্রা শুরু হয় ১৯৭৪ সালে ইলিনয় অঙ্গরাজ্যের শিকাগো শহরে।
নব্বই দশক বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য এক নতুন যুগের সূচনা করে। বিশেষ করে, বাংলাদেশিদের আগমনে চায়নিজ, ইন্ডিয়ান ও পাকিস্তানিদের জ্যাকসন হাইটসের চেহারাকে বদলে দিয়েছে। হাতে গোনা কয়েকটি বিপণি থেকে বর্তমানে এর সংখ্যা তিন শতাধিক। ভারত ও পাকিস্তানিদের খরিদ্দার অধিকাংশই এখন বাংলাদেশি। ব্যবসার মানের দিক থেকে পাক-ভারতীয়দের থেকে পিছিয়ে থাকলেও বাংলাদেশিরাও ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে। এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে সামাজিক, অর্থনৈতিক, রাজনৈতিক জীবনসহ বহুজাতিক সংস্কৃতির ভিড়ে সর্বক্ষেত্রে। যে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের ৭৪ নম্বর সড়কে দাঁড়িয়ে বাংলা ভাষার কোনো বর্ণ চোখে পড়েনি, আজ সেখানে বাংলার ছড়াছড়িতে মুখরিত বাঙালি সংস্কৃতি। ১৮টির মতো বাংলা পত্রিকা এখানে বিনা মূল্যে পাওয়া যায়, যা নিউইয়র্ক থেকে প্রকাশিত হয়। নিউইয়র্কের বাংলা সাপ্তাহিক পত্রিকার অগ্রদূত ‘ঠিকানা’ পত্রিকা দীর্ঘ ৩২ বছর থেকে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যকে বিজ্ঞাপন ও সংবাদ দিয়ে সচল রাখতে যথেষ্ট ভূমিকা রেখেছে। সেই সাথে সম্মিলিত ১৮টি সংবাদপত্রের প্রচারশক্তি জ্যাকসন হাইটসকে ‘মিনি বাংলাদেশ’রূপে উপস্থাপন করার ভূমিকা কোনোক্রমেই কম নয়।
মুক্তধারা ফাউন্ডেশনের কর্ণধার বিশ্বজিৎ সাহার জ্যাকসন হাইটস্থ ‘মুক্তধারা’ আমাদেরকে বই কেনা ও পড়ার সুযোগ করে দিয়েছে। সেই নব্বইয়ের দশক থেকে দুই বাংলার বিখ্যাত লেখকদের নিয়ে মুক্তধারায় আড্ডা জমিয়েছেন। প্রতিবছর মুক্তধারা ফাউন্ডেশনের উদ্যোগে সব ‘বইমেলা’ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের অভ্যন্তরে। এই পরবাসে আজও সেই ধারাবাহিকতায় লাখো বাঙালির মনের খোরাক দিয়ে যাচ্ছে। জ্যাকসন হাইটসের শুধু ৭৪ নম্বর সড়ক থেকে উত্তরে, দক্ষিণ, পূর্ব, পশ্চিমে যেদিকেই পদচারণ হোক, দেখতে পাওয়া যায় বাংলাদেশিদের আনাগোনা, দেখতে পাওয়া যায় পাক-ভারতীয় সুরেলা সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশ, এমনকি তিব্বত, ইন্দোনেশিয়া, মালয়েশিয়া, শ্রীলঙ্কা, নেপালের মানুষদেরও দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। কারণ তারাও এই এলাকায় ব্যবসার জন্য ছোট-বড় প্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে নিয়েছে। হিন্দি মুভির ‘ঈগল থিয়েটার’ এখন ‘ইত্যাদি মিনি সুপার মার্কেট ও ইত্যাদি রেস্টুরেন্টে পরিণত হয়ে গিয়েছে। সিনেমা হলের এক অংশে পাকিস্তানি বিখ্যাত ‘কাবাব কিং রেস্টুরেন্ট’। থিয়েটারের সম্মুখের অ্যাভিনিউ থার্টি সেভেন রোড ২০১২ সালে বন্ধ করে এখন জনসাধারণের জন্য বিশ্রামস্থান ‘ডাইভারসিটি প্লাজা’ নামে রূপান্তরিত। ১৯৯১ সালে চারজন বাংলাদেশির প্রাণপণ উদ্যোগে ‘মেঘনা গ্রোসারি’ জ্যাকসন হাইটসের প্রথম বাংলাদেশি গ্রোসারি হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে। ‘মেঘনা গ্রোসারি’র চার মালিকের মধ্যে মো. এম রহমান ফরিদ মিয়াও ছিলেন তাদের একজন পার্টনার।
তার মাধ্যমে জানতে পারলাম, ব্যক্তিগত উদ্যোগে ১৯৯৩ সালে ‘মেঘনা গ্রোসারি’র পাশে তিনি ‘মেঘনা রেস্টুরেন্ট’ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন, যেটি ছিল বাংলাদেশি প্রথম রেস্তোরাঁ। ‘মান্নান গ্রোসারি’ জ্যাকসন হাইটসের দ্বিতীয় বাংলাদেশি গ্রোসারি। পরবর্তী সময়ে তাদের পথ অনুসরণ করে আজ সেখানে তিন শতাধিক বিভিন্ন ধরনের ব্যবসাপ্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে উঠেছে। যেকোনো প্রয়োজনে, যেকোনো আয়োজনে আজ জ্যাকসন হাইটস ডাইভারসিটি বাঙালিপনার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এলাকা, যাকে ‘মিনি বাংলাদেশ’ বলে আখ্যায়িত করে থাকি।

নিউইয়র্কের জ্যাকসন হাইটস। এই এলাকার ৭৩-৭৪ নাম্বার স্ট্রিটে গেলে একটু অবাক হতে হয়। হাজার হাজার মাইল দূরের একটি রাষ্ট্রের বুকে একটা এলাকায় বাংলার এমন দাপট ভাবা যায় না। এখানকার দোকানপাট, রেস্টুরেন্ট, স্কুল সবর্ত্রই যেন বাংলার আধিপত্য। দোকানগুলোতে বাংলায় লেখা সাইনবোর্ড দেখে মনেই হবে না সুদূর কোনো অঞ্চলে আপনি আছেন৷ এ যেন চিরচেনা বাংলাদেশের কোনো শহরই যেন নেমে গেছে নিউইয়র্কের বুকে।
এখানকার ভবন, স্থাপনা, দোকানপাটের অনেকগুলোই বাংলাদেশিদের তত্ত্বাবধানে চলে। এই স্ট্রিটের পাশাপাশি ৭৪ নাম্বার স্ট্রিটের কিছু অংশ, ৩৭ নাম্বার এভিনিউর অনেকটা জুড়ে বাংলাদেশি ব্যবসায়ীদের আধিপত্য। ১৯৯১ সালে সম্ভবত প্রথম এই জ্যাকসন হাইটসে বাংলাদেশি মালিকানার দোকান প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। মেঘনা বাজার এন্ড হালাল মিট নামক দোকানটি যেটি এখনো আছে, যা কিনা ১৯৯১ সালে যাত্রা শুরু করেছিল। তারপর কত সময় পেরিয়ে গেল, দিনে দিনে বাংলাদেশিদের এক প্রিয় জায়গা হয়ে উঠলো এই এলাকাটি।
মেঘনা সুপার শপের মালিক আবদুর রউফ প্রথম আলোকে একবার গল্প শুনিয়েছিলেন কীভাবে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে তিনি ব্যবসা শুরুর সাহসী সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন। তিনি বলেন,
"আমি যখন ১৯৯১ সালে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে মেঘনা গ্রোসারি করি তখন এই এলাকায় ভারতীয় ও চায়নিজদের প্রাধান্য ছিল বেশি। এখনকার মেঘনা গ্রোসারির জায়গায় দানাঘর নামে একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান ছিল। এই বিশাল পরিসর যখন ভাড়া নিয়েছিলাম তখন অনেকেই “আমি বড় ঝুঁকি নিয়েছি” বলে কথা বলেছিলেন। এই ঝুঁকিটা নিতে পেরেছিলাম। অ্যাস্টোরিয়াতে আমি ১৯৮৩ সাল থেকেই ব্যবসা করে আসছিলাম। তো, জ্যাকসন হাইটসে আমরা একটু আধটু বাংলাদেশি ও আমাদের সাউথ এশিয়ান পণ্য ওঠাতে শুরু করি। ওটা ছিল মূলত একটি ছোটখাটো সুপার শপ। সেই শপে ২-১০ করে যাতায়াত শুরু করলেন। পরে ৭৩ স্ট্রিটে প্রয়াত সাঈদ মান্নান ভাই খুললেন মান্নান গ্রোসারি। এর পরেরটা তো আপনারা দেখছেন!"

জ্যাকসন হাইটসে ডাইভার্সিটি প্লাজার কাছে একটা রেস্টুরেন্ট আছে আবু নোমান নামক এক বাঙ্গালি ভদ্রলোকের। তিনি স্বচক্ষে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে বাংলাদেশিদের উত্থান দেখেছেন। তার ভাষায়, "মেঘনার আগে ছোট আকারে বাংলা বাজার নামে একটি ব্যবসাপ্রতিষ্ঠান ছিল, সেখানে মূলত ভিডিও ক্যাসেট, কিছু চাল, ডাল পাওয়া যেত। কিন্তু এরপর, অ্যাস্টোরিয়ায় বেশি বাংলাদেশি প্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে ওঠে। ওই সময় জ্যাকসন হাইটসে মেঘনা গ্রোসারি প্রতিষ্ঠার কয়েক বছর পরে, মান্নান সাহেব ১৯৯৬ সালে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে একটি হালাল মিট এবং ছোট আকারে গ্রোসারির দোকান দেন। এরপর সেখানে মানুষের যাতায়াত বাড়তে থাকে। এভাবে আস্তে আস্তে বাংলাদেশিরা আসতে শুরু করেন জ্যাকসন হাইটসে।
আমি যখন ২০০৪ সালে জ্যাকসন হাইটসে ইত্যাদির শোরুম খুলি, তখন মানুষ ছিল সব মিলিয়ে হয়তো ৫০ হাজার। এখন তো ১০ লাখ মানুষ হবে কমপক্ষে। এই বিশালসংখ্যক মানুষের চাহিদাও তো বিশাল, সে কারণেই প্রতিদিন বাড়ছে ব্যবসাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের সংখ্যা। এখন শুধু দোকান ভাড়াই নিচ্ছেন না বাংলাদেশি উদ্যোক্তারা। নিজস্ব প্রপার্টিজ কিনছেন। যেমন বাংলাদেশ প্লাজা এবং এখনকার আপনা বাজার ও সবজি মন্ডি ভবনের মালিক বাংলাদেশি। আমি যে, বেলাজিনো করেছি সেটারও মালিক একজন বাংলাদেশি। সব মিলিয়ে এখানে আমাদের আধিপত্য বাড়ছে।"
জ্যাকসন হাইটস সম্পর্কে বিভিন্ন গল্প শোনা যায় সেখানকার বসবাসকারী মানুষদের কাছ থেকে। এই যেমন একটা মজার কথা প্রচলিত আছে। কেউ কেউ নাকি জ্যাকসন হাইটসকে নাকি নিউইয়র্কের গুলিস্থানও বলে থাকে। ছুটির দিনে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের অবস্থা কোনো অংশে ঢাকার জনপ্রিয় ব্যস্ততম সড়কের চেয়ে কম না। প্রচন্ড ভীড় হয়। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে দেখেছি, শুক্রবারের দিনটায় কি প্রচন্ড ভীড় হয়। প্রচুর গাড়ি এসে জমে, ভাসমান হকার বসে। হাঁটার জায়গা থাকে না। জ্যাকসন হাইটসেও ছুটির দিনে এমন হয়। রাস্তায় পার্কিং করার জায়গায় টান পড়ে। ফাঁকা জায়গাগুলো পূরণ হয়ে যায়। ফুটপাতে আমাদের দেশের মতো হরেক পদের দোকান বসে।
ছুটির দিনে এখানে হয় নিউমার্কেটের মতো ভিড়
এই শহরে এসে আপনার নিজেকে খুব বেশি অচেনা মনে নাও হতে পারে। কারণ, এখানে বাংলা শুনতে পাবেন। বাংলায় লেখা টুলেটের বিজ্ঞাপন দেখতে পাবেন। মিষ্টি খেতে মন চাইলে বাংলাদেশি মিষ্টির দোকানও আছে এখানে। জ্যাকসন হাইটস অনেকটা আমেরিকায় বাঙ্গালিদের রাজধানীর মতো। ঈদে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকা বাঙ্গালি অভিবাসীরা নাকি জ্যাকসন হাইটসে চলে আসে, সব বাঙ্গালি মিলে ঈদ উদযাপন করার লক্ষ্যে। এইদিকে মেয়েরা হাতে মেহেদী লাগায়। ঈদের কেনাকাটায় ভিন্ন আমেজ দেখা যায়।
আবার গরমের সিজনে সেখানে বাংলাদেশি ফলের মেলা বসে যায়। এই সময়ে সেখানে গেলে কেউ আপনাকে আম দিয়ে আপ্যায়ন করে ফেললেও অবাক হওয়ার কিছু নেই! আরেকটা দারুণ ব্যাপার হলো, হাজার মাইল দূরে বসেও বাংলাদেশকে জ্যাকসন হাইটসের প্রবাসীরা কখনো ভুলে যায় না। বরং, সেখানেও দেশ সচেতন মানুষ আছেন যাদেরকে দেশের বিভিন্ন ঘটনা ভীষণভাবে আলোড়িত করে।
এইতো ২০১৩ সালে যখন শাহবাগ উত্তাল যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের ফাঁসির দাবিতে, সেই ঢেউ লেগেছিল জ্যাকসন হাইটসে বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির মধ্যেও। জ্যাকসন হাইটসে বাংলাদেশি সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠন, ব্লগার, অনলাইন অ্যাক্টিভিস্ট এবং সাহিত্য-সংস্কৃতির সাথে জড়িত সচেতন মানুষরা শাহবাগের আন্দোলনের সাথে সংহতি প্রকাশ করে সেখান সমাবেশও করেছিল! ‘ফাসি চাই, ফাঁসি চাই যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের ফাঁসী চাই’, ‘কাদের মোল্লার ফাঁসি চাই’, ‘তোমার আমার ঠিকানা পদ্মা মেঘনা যমুনা’ ইত্যাদি স্লোগানে প্রকম্পিত হয়েছিল জ্যাকসন হাইটস।
এই হলো জ্যাকসন হাইটসের গল্প, যেখানে বাংলা আছে, বাঙ্গালিরা আছে, আছে বাংলাদেশি স্বাদ। এখানকার প্রবাসীরা ভাল থাকুক, শান্তিপূর্ণ হোক তাদের জীবন এটাই প্রত্যাশা রাখি। নিউইয়র্কের বুকে বাংলার এমন দাপুটে ঠিকানা টিকে থাকুক আরো অনেকযুগ!
